On 6 May 2025, Walailak University, led by Mr. Suthira Thongkao, a lecturer at the School of Languages and General Education, in collaboration with the Na Maiphai Subdistrict Administrative Organization and local community leaders, organized a meeting to establish guidelines for promoting water management and conservation among residents of Thung Song District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.
The meeting included a review of relevant background information and a discussion on strategies for improving the efficiency of water management and conservation efforts. Participants explored ways to integrate these activities with the Living Weir Project for Sustainable Community Development 2025, focusing on network building and collaborative action.
The meeting resulted in a clear direction for implementing water conservation initiatives beyond the university’s campus. These efforts will be driven by local leadership in Na Maiphai, in partnership with relevant governmental bodies at the local, regional, national, and global levels, aiming to enhance water security.
The planned activities will emphasize the importance of water conservation through training, demonstrations, and hands-on community participation. The project also aims to establish a model community with robust water and irrigation management practices that do not harm freshwater ecosystems. Community members will be equipped with the knowledge and understanding necessary to sustainably manage local water resources.
This initiative aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, Goal 14: Life Below Water, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals, highlighting the importance of collaborative networks and partnerships in achieving sustainable development.
