Walailak University Signs MoU with ITP Markandeya Bali, Indonesia to Foster Cooperation in Research and Teaching

Walailak University (WU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Institut Teknologi dan Pendidikan Markandeya Bali (ITP Markandeya Bali), Indonesia, to foster cooperation and strengthen innovative collaboration in research and teaching. The signing ceremony took place on 14 July 2025 at the Mokhalan Meeting Room, Professor Dr. Wichit Srisa-an Building.

Representing WU in welcoming the delegation from ITP Markandeya Bali were Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of WU, along with senior administrators and staff. The ITP Markandeya Bali delegation was led by Associate Professor Dr. I Wayan Numertayasa, Rector.

Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong said that the ceremony represents more than a formal agreement; it marks the beginning of a forward-looking academic partnership grounded in shared values, mutual respect, and a strong commitment to educational excellence and sustainable development.

“Through this MoU, both institutions envision creating opportunities for student and staff mobility, joint research, co-hosted conferences, and collaborative programs - particularly in nursing, health sciences, technology, and community-based education - areas in which both our institutions excel,” he said.

President Sombat also emphasized the importance of international partnerships in sharing expertise and advancing research, noting that WU, as a research-intensive institution in Thailand, currently holds the highest percentage of its publications in Quartile 1 journals in Thailand. As of 30 June 2025, 82.3% of WU’s Scopus-indexed publications are in Q1 journals - the highest ratio in the country.

On this occasion, Rector I Wayan Numertayasa expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome. He remarked that the MoU is not merely a ceremonial formality, but a genuine commitment to enhancing collaboration in education, research, and community engagement. “We strongly believe that this partnership will continue to grow and expand, and that our collaboration will bring meaningful benefits to both institutions, our students, and society at large.”

The MoU, signed by the President of WU and the Rector of ITP Bali, is valid for five years. In addition to promoting research and teaching, the agreement also includes internships - also known as cooperative education - enabling students from both institutions to gain international professional experience and become well-prepared for their future careers.
