Walailak University Organizing a Free Outreach Workshop to Improve Marine Product Standards for Local Fishermen

 

THA SALA, NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, 23 May 2025 — Walailak University, represented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Tanong Aewsiri from the School of Agricultural Technology and Food Industry; Mr. Hussen Niyomdecha and Mr. Pavit Tansakul from the School of Management; together with staff from the Center for Academic Services, organized a free local outreach workshop on marine product standards for fishermen in Ban Nai Thung Community.

The workshop focused on enhancing knowledge related to the requirements for Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Halal certifications. It also aimed to strengthen community capacity in culinary dish development that reflects local identity, encourage the use of local ingredients, introduce technologies for food and agricultural processing, improve food safety practices, and provide guidance on preparing documents for certification applications.

This initiative is part of Walailak University’s continuing commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The project supports local education, poverty reduction, career development, income generation, sustainable food resource creation, water resource management, responsible natural resource use, and awareness-raising on sustainable development.

In particular, this activity aligns with SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 14: Life Below Water, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, reflecting the university’s dedication to fostering positive and sustainable change through academic and community partnerships.
