Civil engineering students from Walailak University have clinched three awards at the International Stable and Sustainable Structure Competition 2024 (I3SC’24). The event, hosted at the University of Malaysia Perlis on June 8, 2024, provided a platform for participants to demonstrate their abilities in designing and constructing sustainable wooden bridges. The primary objective was to foster innovation and technology conducive to the development of environmentally friendly and sustainable infrastructure for the future.
Out of 22 competing teams from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, three teams from Walailak University received three awards. Team S.C.A.T received the Champion of I3SC’24 Award. Its members include Ms. Prapatsorn Rittigun, Mr. Alongkron Prachumrat, Mr. Thayakorn Bunkaew, and Mr. Musilhee Samae. Team G.O.A.T received the WAREG Special Award Top Sustainable Structure. Its members comprise Mr. Asron Malee, Mr. Mahammatnatsare Katnakorn, Mr. Feesalhaidar Mama, Mr. Nitasseen Nide, and Ms. Ainulmaddiyah Walong. Team S.C.A.T 2 was honored with the JPS Special Award Supreme Aesthetic Design. Its members include Ms. Thipphaporn Thongdet, Mr. Wanwidan Waeyusoh, Mr. Adam Cheha, and Mr. Kongdach Buanoy.
Associate Professor Dr. Thanongsak Imjai, a lecturer at the School of Engineering and Technology and advisor for the teams from Walailak University, said "I feel proud and happy that our students had the opportunity to showcase their abilities and received awards in this international competition. The students have benefited greatly from participating in the competition, such as developing professional skills, teamwork, problem-solving, and creative analysis."
“The students' creations not only possess stability and sustainability but also have the potential to be applied in developing environmentally friendly and sustainable infrastructure. This will have positive implications for the future development of cities and communities,” he said.
