Nine researchers from Walailak University have been named in the World’s Top 2% Scientists 2026 list, an annual database of top-cited researchers worldwide. This is the university’s highest number to date, up from eight in 2025 and six in 2024. All nine appear in the single-year impact category, and three are also recognized for career-long impact.

The database was created by Stanford University and is published through the Elsevier Data Repository using Scopus data. This edition (version 9) is based on a Scopus snapshot taken on 1 August 2026. Career-long impact covers citations through the end of 2025, while single-year impact covers citations received during 2025. Researchers are selected using a composite indicator, the c-score, which accounts for citations, co-authorship and author position. To be included, a researcher must rank among the top 100,000 by c-score or within the top 2% of their sub-field.

Three Walailak researchers are recognized in both categories: Professor Dr. Manat Chaijan of the School of Agricultural Technology and Food Industry (Food Science), Associate Professor Veeranoot Nissapatorn of the School of Science (Tropical Medicine), and Associate Professor Dr. Nuttawit Wattanasakulpong of the School of Engineering and Technology (Civil Engineering). All three have been listed every year since 2021, for six consecutive years.

Six further researchers are recognized in the single-year category. Among those returning to the list, Assistant Professor Dr. MD Eshrat E Alahi of the School of Engineering and Technology (Analytical Chemistry) is listed for a fourth consecutive year, and Associate Professor Dr. Chuchard Punsawad of the School of Medicine (Tropical Medicine) for a third consecutive year. Associate Professor Dr. Mark Bedoya Ulla and Associate Professor Dr. Budi Waluyo, both School of Languages and General Education (Education), are each listed for a second consecutive year. Two researchers from the School of Science are newly listed this year in Nuclear and Particle Physics: Associate Professor Dr. Phongpichit Channuie and Assistant Professor Dr. Takol Tangphati.
