Walailak University Strengthens Regional Academic Ties Through Courtesy Visit to the Singapore Embassy, Bangkok

On 7 May 2025, Dr. Suthasinee Sangkhum Assistant to the President for Global Engagement at Walailak University, paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore in Bangkok. The meeting was cordially hosted by Mr. Alexander Lim, Counsellor (Political), and Ms. Fiona Leong, Second Secretary (Political).

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on strengthening academic cooperation between Walailak University and institutions in Singapore. Key areas of discussion included the potential for joint research, academic exchange and mobility programs, and international cooperative education initiatives.

The Embassy expressed its appreciation for Walailak University’s growing role as a prominent Thai public autonomous university located outside the capital, and conveyed its interest in supporting future collaboration by facilitating introductions between Walailak University and Singaporean universities and companies when appropriate opportunities arise.

The Embassy also highlighted Singapore’s current educational directions, particularly the Ministry of Education’s efforts to encourage Singaporean students to explore opportunities across the ASEAN and broader Asian region. This direction aligns closely with Walailak University’s internationalization strategy and commitment to regional engagement.

In addition, the Counsellor and Second Secretary discussed the National University of Singapore’s (NUS) Department of Thai Studies, which focuses on Thailand’s public policy and related societal themes. This was identified as a promising area for collaboration, where Walailak University’s School of Political Science and affiliated scholars may contribute valuable insights to the regional academic landscape.

The Embassy kindly offered to share a contact list of Singaporean institutions to support Walailak University’s outreach and partnership development efforts. This diplomatic engagement marks a meaningful step toward enhancing academic cooperation and fostering regional connectivity between Singapore and Thailand.
