Building Sustainable Bridges: WU Engages with the Kenyan Embassy on Education, Research, and Youth Empowerment

On 29 April 2025, Walailak University (WU) had the honor of paying a courtesy call on His Excellency Mr. Kiptiness Lindsay Kimwole, Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to Thailand, at the Kenyan Embassy in Bangkok. Representing WU were Dr. Suthasinee Sangkhum, Assistant to the President for Global Engagement, and Dr. Suchita Manajit, Associate Dean of the International College.

The discussion focused on pressing global challenges, including plastic and microplastic pollution, underscoring WU’s vision as a Green University dedicated to advancing global sustainability. A wide range of collaborative opportunities were explored, including youth empowerment projects, joint research initiatives in biodiversity conservation, student exchange programs, and double degree programs in tourism, agriculture, food technology, and sustainability sciences.

Dr. Suchita also introduced WU’s exchange programs, which offer Kenyan students  opportunities to experience Thai culture and academic life. Of particular importance was the discussion on WU’s scholarships for Kenyan students, with plans underway to welcome applicants for the November 2025 intake.

The meeting also reflected on the long-standing friendship between Thailand and Kenya, established in 1978, with trade volume reaching over USD 60 million in 2022—primarily in agriculture, technology, and mutual development sectors.

The dialogue further resonated with Africa’s Agenda 2063—a shared vision for an integrated, prosperous, and peaceful Africa driven by education, innovation, and sustainable partnerships.

At present, WU is hosting three Kenyan students enrolled in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Pharmaceutical Innovation programs—symbolizing the deepening educational bond between the two nations.

This courtesy call marks a meaningful step forward in strengthening Thailand–Kenya relations through education, research, and youth-driven global solutions.
