WU English Education Student Earns First Runner-Up in English Speech Competition Marking 150 Years of Thailand’s Foreign Affairs Ministry



A student from Walailak University earned the first runner-up position in an English speech competition held to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event took place at the EILA 6 Meeting Room, 8th Floor, the Learning Resource Center (LRC 1) at Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai Campus on 5 February 2025.

The competition, conducted under the theme “Shaping Thailand’s Global Role: How Can Thailand Leverage Its Strategic Location to Advance National Interests Amidst the Changing Geopolitical Landscape?”, offered cash prizes, trophies, and certificates. It attracted participants from universities across the country.

Results showed that Mr. Ilyas Sulong, a first-year student in the Bachelor of Education (English Education Program) at the School of Education, Walailak University, secured the first runner-up award.

Reflecting on his achievement, Mr. Ilyas said, “I'm proud to have earned this award. I must also acknowledge the invaluable support of my advisor, who helped me analyze and interpret political issues related to the topic. This guidance was key to boosting my confidence and ultimately led to my success today.”
