Walailak University Delegation Pays Courtesy Call to the Royal Bhutanese Embassy in Bangkok  

On November 27, 2024, a delegation from Walailak University (WU) led by Dr. Suthasinee Sangkhum, Assistant to the President for Global Engagement, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Wachiraporn Poungjinda, Assistant Dean for International Affairs of the College of Graduate Studies, visited the Royal Bhutanese Embassy in Bangkok.  

The delegation held fruitful discussions with Mr. Karma Sonam Tshosar, Deputy Chief of Mission, and Mr. Sonam Palden, Second Secretary, focusing on strengthening academic and human resource development ties between WU and Bhutan. Key topics included postgraduate scholarship opportunities, collaboration with the Royal Civil Service Commission (RCSC), and partnerships with the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) on lecturer and student exchanges and joint research projects.
 
The Royal Bhutanese Embassy expressed strong support for these initiatives and affirmed its readiness to promote WU scholarships in Bhutan. Both parties reviewed the preliminary content for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and agreed to proceed with drafting for further approval and implementation.  

Additionally, the Deputy Chief of Mission and the Second Secretary extended their regards to WU’s President, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, and delivered an official invitation for him to attend Bhutan’s 117th National Day on December 17. Discussions also touched on the possibility of the WU President visiting Bhutan for the MoU signing ceremony, marking a formal commitment to long-term collaboration.  

This courtesy call underscores Walailak University’s unwavering dedication to fostering global partnerships and enhancing academic excellence, positioning the university as a leader in international engagement and collaboration.
