On 20 September 2024, Walailak University (WU) Center for International Affairs (CIA) and Division of Student Support and Development (DSSD) organized a Student Empowerment Program in collaboration with Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) at the Khaoluang Chamber, Cooperative Education Building. The event aimed to empower students, strengthen the ties between the two institutions, and explore future collaborations.
Sixteen students from UUM’s Kuala Lumpur Campus, led by Ms. Rozita Ramli, Director of Accreditation, Rankings, and Reputation Management at the Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business, participated in the program. Students from WU's School of Public Health and School of Education and Liberal Arts were also in attendance.
During the program, information about the two universities was exchanged, and potential collaborations were discussed, including student mobility programs, international cultural camps, and faculty mobility initiatives.
Associate Professor Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Vice President of WU, who joined the event via Zoom from Malaysia, said that UUM is excelling in many areas, and he has often told his colleagues at Walailak University that there is much to learn from UUM. "For instance, while our university has made significant progress in international rankings over the past few years, we still have a long way to go," he said.
“I am very pleased that UUM has visited us today, and I hope we can take concrete steps forward, including visiting UUM soon,” he added.
The event was also honored by the presence of WU Vice President Associate Professor Dr. Urai Jaraeprapal, who shared insights into WU’s student development activities and the Good Student Passport initiative. Additionally, Assistant to the WU President, Dr. Suthasinee Sangkhum, shared about international affairs activities at WU. After that, the UUM students had a networking session with WU students and were given a tour of the campus before their departure.
