Walailak University (WU), in collaboration with James Cook University (JCU), Australia, hosted JCU's Cultural Program at WU for the year 2024. This program, supported by the Australian Government's New Colombo Plan and WU's Center for International Affairs, offers students valuable opportunities for cultural and language immersion.
Eleven students from JCU representing various disciplines, including Politics and International Relations, Archaeology, Education, Geology, History, and Social Work, participated in the program. The group was supervised by Dr. Nigel Chang, project head.
The official welcome and orientation for the students took place at the Khaoluang Chamber, Cooperative Education Building, today. Students from various WU schools, such as the School of Education and Liberal Arts, School of Management, and School of Architecture and Design, also joined the event.
During the two-week stay at WU, the students will engage in a variety of activities, such as a Thai language class, Thai boxing session, Thai dance workshop, a visit to Nakhon Si Thammarat city and its national museum, a history session, a mangrove planting activity, and a trip to Krabi province.
At the welcoming event, Associate Professor Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Vice President of WU, warmly welcomed the students, stating, "Welcome to Walailak University and thank you for coming. We extend our heartfelt greetings to all of you. Your presence here is contributing enormously to the internationalization at Walailak University. We hope you enjoy your time here and have a good experience."
Since 2018, WU has collaborated with JCU on exchange programs. One successful example is the partnership between WU's Akkhraratchakumari Veterinary College and JCU Veterinary Science, where students gain practical experience in poultry and wildlife medicine. Additionally, they get to conduct laboratory work and physical examinations to identify pathologies or abnormalities in animal remains, particularly those diseases prevalent in tropical areas.
